SoleJourney
GLBT
Running Time: 57
The film begins by examining the actions of Dr. Dobson in 2004 and the Soulforce efforts to negotiate with him. The 2005 MAYDAY! direct action illustrates the Soulforce principles of relentless nonviolent resistance in action with commentary by Souforce co-founder, Rev. Dr. Mel White; Soulforce Executive Director Jeff Lutes; Judy Shepard of the Matthew Shepard Foundation; and Hollywood actor Chad Allen. Next, SoleJourney follows participants in the 1000 Watt March, Vigil, and Concert, a nonviolent protest by over 800 participants held from July 17 to 22, 2006 in Colorado. The film explores the stories of several of the families who walked in the six-day, 65 mile, 'relay' style march from the steps of the Colorado State Capitol in Denver to the entrance of Focus on the Family in Colorado Springs. As each group of families walks a 5 mile segment of the march in the parching, 100+ degree climate, they share what motivates them to commit to nonviolent principles to work toward change in a lopsided--and seemingly hopeless--struggle with a colossal adversary. Finally, the film concludes with the ongoing 'Focus on the Facts' campaign. Various participants show how they hope to help America connect the dots between the false and defamatory rhetoric that flows from Focus on the Family and the assault on the civil liberties of LGBT people and their families. The film seeks to connect the efforts of civil rights leaders like Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the efforts of present day activists.
